A Wrinkle In Time Part 1
At this she’d thrown die books on the side of the road and tackled him with every ounce of strength she had, and arrived home with her blouse torn and a big bruise under one eye.
1.tackle n.
1. to try to deal with a difficult problem处理,对付(难题)
英: 2. to try to take the ball away from an opponent in a game such as football or hockey
英: 3. to talk to someone in order to deal with a difficult problem(为了解决难题)与…… 交涉tackle sb about sth.
例如:When I tackled Susan about it, she admitted she’d made a mistake.
4. to start fighting someone, especially a criminal对付,打(尤指罪犯)
2.竭尽全力,学到了一个新的表达方式:with every ounce of strength

英3: to affect someone badly and make them feel less confident打击,挫伤(某人的自信心)bruise sb’s pride/ego挫伤某人自尊心
Her ten-year-old twin brothers, who got home from school an hour earlier than she did, were disgusted.“Let us do the fighting when it’s necessary,”they told her.

disgust with: Nelson’s disgust with US politics.
