Chapter 3: Escape
The barn was large and very old, smelled of hay and smelled of manure, smelled of the perspiration of tired horses and the wonderful sweet breath of patient cows. Fern came here everyday and she sat on a stool just beside the pigpen for the whole afternoon. One day Wilbur walked out of the barn and looked at the sun. He felt bored and talked with himself. A goose told him that he could get out through the loosen board. Wilbur did as the goose said and then it was found by Mrs. Zuckerman. She cried out and her husband, Lurvy who was a worker and the spaniel began to catch Wilbur. The little pig was scared by them and the animals in the barn were so excited that they gave Wilbur many different directions to escape, which made Wilbur confused. Mr Zuckerman took a pail of slops and walked slowly toward Wilbur. Wilbur was tired and it couldn't resist the delicious food, so it followed Mr. Zuckerman back to the barn. Then the loosen board was repaired by the worker.
