大学里,你比较喜欢住小区公寓还是住学校宿舍?
Nowadays, more and more college students choose to live in apartments instead of living in dormitories on campus. Comparing the two places in the following ways, I prefer the dormitory.
First, life in dormitories could be an unforgettable and precious part of our campus life. For those who have difficulties in getting along with roommates, renting an apartment might get them away from many troubles. However, escaping is never the best solution. It is the path to learn to deal with different people, such as our roommates coming from all over the country. What’s more, if we can communicate sincerely with our roommates, they could be our friends with whom we share daily happiness and sorrow. When it comes to campus, people might think of the roommate A who used to cook delicious food for them, and roommate B who was always the first one to get up and wake up those who had classes in the morning. Living in a dormitory and learning from each other make it easier for us to confront the burden of study and life on campus.
Second, we could keep a healthy lifestyle with the rules of the dormitory. Many colleges would limit the latest time for coming back to the dormitory and even turn off the lights at certain time. It might be convenient for some students who hate being regulated by rules and have got to stay up for study or part-time job. But the rules of the dormitory are relatively scientific for the majority. With the rule, we have to care about others who share the same room with us and try not to interrupt them. This is an important quality as a citizen. Meanwhile, we have to adjust our lifestyle according to the rules instead of becoming increasingly indulgent and indolent with too much freedom and comfort in the apartment.
Third, it decreases the cost of money and time for college students to live in campus. Usually, it costs more to rent an apartment. Some students even have to take part-time job for it. Besides, it takes more time for them to go to and fro between college and the community. They also have to spend time on cleaning the apartment and cooking while in college these could be saved by the workers or by doing with roommates. As we know, the most important task for the college students is supposed to be studying. It is unnecessary for us to live in apartment at the cost of money and time which should have been spent on study.
In this case, the advantage of living in dormitories far overweighs the advantages of living off campus. I believe that dormitory is a better place to live in for college students.

读后感:读woolf的room of one's own(一篇essay,将女性的独立和社会地位)和forster的the other boat(男男恋,最后一个男的意识到这种行为的不可容忍,把对方杀了之后,自杀了)
About the love stories in literature, there are always some barriers for the couple to overcome. The most common barrier might be the impropriety love cross different social classes. The lovers should confront the gossip of others, the repulsion from the family and the ruin of the career, which force them from "do as they feel"(The Other Boat by E. M. Forster). In the story "In Other Boat", the love story is more or less about the couple who fail to keep their love against the old custom, similar to other love stories. The difference lies in that the barrier for them is much more unacceptable for the society than the classes difference, homosexual love.
Sometimes the old customs really disgust me. Of course, the customs make a difference for normalizing the behavior of people. But the customs could not be still. In the past, people have a wrong understanding of homosexual love so it was our tradition that people could only be buggers with opposite sex. The love between Lionel and Cocoanut is, however, even more insignificant the most so-call normal love. And as female's body structure is born weaker than male's, for a long history, women are supposed to stay at home to take care of the family. Step by step, it turned out that women didn't have to get educated or get into business. But life is changing. Women become more and more independent. The customs, the stereotype about should be changed. People like Virginia Woolf actually take great courage to go against the stereotype expressing her advanced opinions. It will be a dog-eat-dog world in A Madman's Dairy when people stop renewing their ideas about things according to the development of the society.
Questions:
1. Why is Cocoanut being stressed as "tar-brush" and "half-cast"? Does it indicate that it is another stereotype or bias as the oppression of the society?
2. How can we explain the feelings of Lionel before he dies as he feels no pain and fearless to death? Is it out of the deepest love or abnormal love? Or the liberation from the old customs?
3. Nowadays, economic problem is not as serious as the times of Woolf, so the problem might mainly be the stereotype about women that roots in the women's mind. Is it possible that the women are given money and their own room, but then they don't even realize that they use it as a place to write?
