by Norma
The book’s author is Robert Louis Stevenson. He was born in 1850 in Edinburgh, the only child of middleclass parents with strong Scottish traditions. Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, his second novel, was the book which made him famous. For Stevenson, the great importance was always in personal morality, and this is reflected in the book. The book with 128 papers was published by Beijing Joint Publishing co., LTD and the price is 16 RMB.
This is a breathing suspense novel, tells a tragic life of a jazz with two distinct faces, warned people that in order to get salvation, it is necessary to lose part of the nature.
The novel mainly describe a famous and intelligent physician who turns into an evil man after taking a drug, intended to separate evil from good in a personality. Dr Jekyll, who is the main character of this novel, is known as an acknowledgeable and respectable man in London. He owns the good frames for what good deeds he has done. But in his inner heart he always feels tired of what role he has acted as. So he makes a special medicine by himself and eats it to change him into Mr. Hyde, an ugly, small and deformed man. Being an evil man, he can do some evil things, where as Hyde is still young and energetic, but he can get away with any punishment because of another perfect character. Utterson is a good friend of Mr. Jekyll, he is curious about what he heard from Richard. So he spends a lot of time in collect information about Jekyll and Hyde. After both Jekyll and Lanyon died, Utterson knows well about the complex things of his two friends. He knows the evil things Jekyll has done and the true feelings of Jekyll. He knows the surprising thing that Lanyon has saw. The secret and complicated things become bright for Utterson. However, he could do nothing but keep up the good fame for his friend. What makes me depress is that Jekyll struggles to become Mr. Hyde or not. Finally and fortunately, he makes a hard decision for preventing Hyde from destroy the sociality. Justice versus evil and makes it.
After reading this novel, I feel very shock about what Jekyll have done and though and feel sorry that he throw the morality away. A coin has two sides. So a person has dual personality, which is not strange and unacceptable. As is well-known, no one is willing to be controlled and makes his heart uncomfortable, which lures the evil aspect. What crucial point is that how we behave ourselves and develop a good behavior. We should release our pressure in an appropriate way, consider that whether our demands are reasonable or not and judge something right or not with a critical spirit. We should not be excessive indulgence or it is dangerous and may threaten social harmony. As far as I am considered, public morality is more important than personal morality. Be a good man!
(起初是因为这本书是阅读要求书目中最薄的其中之一而选择了它,但一看便上了瘾。自知文笔很差,只希望没有语法、拼写错误,表达我从这本书中的所得所感所悟。)
