I am happy to join with you today in what will go down in history as the greatest demonstration for freedom in the history of our nation.
Five score years ago, a great American, in whose symbolic shadow we stand today, signed the Emancipation Proclamation. This momentous decree came as a great beacon light of hope to millions of Negro slaves who had been seared in the flames of withering injustice. It came as a joyous daybreak to end the long night of their captivity.
晨读群名称: The Crack of Dawn 黎明破晓(9月晨读名称:Day Break of Drill )
Crack
I am happy to join with you today(语调上扬) in what will go down in history as the greatest demonstration for(弱读)freedom in the history of our nation.
1. happy
在这里并没有使用高大上的大词,比如thrilled (very excited, happy, and pleased); elated (extremely happy and excited),而是选择平淡无奇的小词happy,因此得到启发:happy 更真诚(平时会说的表达,更接地气)
例如:我有一个梦想: I boast a dream.
在On Writing Well 中说道:我们不需要用fancy (complicated and needing a lot of skill 花俏的,复杂的) 的词去look smart, 平实一点。
3. go down in history
同义表达:take your place in history
as the greatest demonstration for(弱读)freedom
Five score years ago, a great American, in whose symbolic shadow we stand today, signed the Emancipation Proclamation. This momentous decree came as a great beacon light of hope to millions of Negro slaves who had been seared in the flames of withering injustice. I came as a joyous daybreak to end the long night of their captivity.
1. five score years ago 100
Four score and seven years ago...
Abraham Lincoln /ˈeɪbrəˌhæm/ /'liŋkən/ --16th President of the United States)
Five score years ago, a great American, in whose symbolic shadow we stand today, signed the Emancipation Proclamation.
a&b. 用词&音乐美: 三个s, 在韵律上具有音乐美:in whose symbolic shadow we stand today, signed the Emancipation Proclamation.
Emancipation /ɪˌmænsəˈpeʃən/ 解放
Proclamation /ˌprɑklə'meʃən/ 声明,宣言,公布(A proclamation is a public announcement about something important, often about something of national importance.)
a great American, in whose symbolic shadow we stand today, signed the Emancipation Proclamation.
This momentous decree came as a great beacon light of hope to millions of Negro slaves who had been seared in the flames of withering injustice. It came as a joyous daybreak to end the long night of their captivity.
1. 生词
momentous :/mo'mɛntəs/ very important
decree /dɪ'kri/ 法令;政令 an official order given by a person with power or by a government
e.g. The steak was seared over a hot grill.
wither /'wɪðɚ/ 枯萎
withering /'wɪðərɪŋ/ (devastating; severe and extremely critical)
2. a great beacon light of hope
(How the light of hope guides us through darkness and despair? )
It came/ as a joyous daybreak/ to end the long night of their captivity.
连读:It came as a joyous daybreak
came as 对...
when the song ends, people scatter.
