It is the time that the PDD issue keeps simmering, that arrtacts many people's attention on the workload topic over the night. It has been a tacit knowledge that working in the Internet companies in China means you work over time and get no extra pay.
You may ask many questions. Why employees in those companies are not fighting for their rights? Why are they tolerating the bad work-life balance?
There are many reasons. Firstly, the Internet companies always pay relatively well in China, so the employees complain less; Secondly, the Internet companies are good at making the contribution-oriented environment. Such as Jack Ma used to express that 996 could be a lucky thing. Thirdly, most of the employees are usually young graduates, who are so fresh and energetic, so eager to enter the society and make a difference in the world. So they have no problem on the unfairness as they have been trained to be obedience.
When everyone is silent about an issue and gradually it becomes default and then it becomes normal, in the end, no one is even fell strange about it. It is a tragedy that the abnormal becomes normal.
I really miss the days I work abroad. And now I can understand why my previous colleagues were trying so hard to go to the other country at her 30+. Hope there will be no 996 in China, and hope people can really enjoy the work life balance.
