It was a very sunny and calm day, perfect for going to the beach. my mom my dad and I were at South Beach on the island of Miami. We came over for winter vacation because it was too cold in New York City and Miami is warmer.
We arrived at the vast beach at 10 a.m.There were limited people and most of them stayed on the shore. Since we were living in a hotel near the beach we got a free Sun blocking umbrella and two chairs.
“Can I go swimming now?” I begged my mom.
“Yes, you can”. She replied as she put sunscreen on me.
I took off my sweater and dashed towards the sea.
In the ocean, there were large bundles of seaweed all in one straight, horizontal line. at the shore, the water was very clear so I could see pure White seashells in the fine sand. wait a second it is the perfect day to make sand castles! I thought. I started to collect wet sand in the ocean to make the walls more sturdy. In the sand, there were very small seashells the size of a period. I began stacking the sand on top of each other and built a 9-inch wall.
After finishing the sandcastle I decided to get some shells for decoration. I slowly touched the tip of my feet into the water. it isn't that cold I thought. When my whole body was in the water I held my breath and dived down on to the sea floor. I grabbed a shell-like object and bobbed up to the surface. Ew... I thought as some sea water reached into my mouth when I took a deep breath.
When I came back, my wall had shrunk down to 4 inches. Oh no! I thought as I saw another wave coming. I quickly reinforced the walls with more wet sand. this happened about 6 times before the waves finally defeated my sandcastle. However, I didn't get upset, on the shore I found in an actual spiral seashell. I ran up to Mom and showed her the cell.
I later brought the Shelf back to New York City as a souvenir along with the other beautiful shells I found in the ocean. Now when I look at them I always remember the time when I went to the island of Miami Beach.
