As is shown in the above picture, a beautiful young lady is flying a green and
yellow kite in the blue sky. We are informed that “Happiness looks extremely far
away, yet in fact it is just in your hands and it depends on how you grasp”. The
caption indicates that “What is happiness”?
There is no denying that each and every one of us is longing for happiness.
However, we may find it difficult to find a universal definition of the concept of
happiness. Diverse reasons can be identified as contributing to this situation. The
most immediate reason for it being difficult for us to define the concept of
happiness is the multitude of attitudes among average people. For example, a sick
person is likely to deem health the thing that will most likely bring him or her
happiness. An equally important reason that makes it difficult for one to clarify
the idea of happiness lies in the ever-changing requirements of individuals. It goes
without saying that a high school graduate may consider admission to a key
university the happiest moment of his or her life.
In view of the above reasoning, I am convinced that it is difficult to define the
word “happiness”, and that it is advisable for every person to adjust his or her
understanding of happiness to reality. It is also clear to me that, despite the lack
of a universal definition, true happiness is probably derived from “giving”.

“微笑的”传统文化
The ancient culture of China is one of the great treasures of human civilization.
In the photo above, a foreign lady is pleasantly appreciating a traditional
Chinese handcraft in a museum. At the same time, it seems that the little
handiwork is smiling as well.
In my opinion, the traditional Chinese culture is not only certain to survive, but,
in fact, is destined to thrive and prosper. One factor that has already begun to
contribute
to the
preservation
of
Chinese
traditional
culture
is
its
commercialization. Another reason that the future of China's ancient culture can
be considered "safe" is the active efforts to protect it on the part of the Chinese
government. Finally, the culture of China is supported by widespread and growing
international interest in China and its traditions.
For China, as for any other rapidly developing country, there is a danger that
age-old customs and traditions may become lost in the shadow of modernization. If
tai chi, kung-fu or Peking opera ever perished from the earth, it would be a
tragedy of immeasurable proportions. Fortunately, as a result of successful
commercialization efforts, unwavering government support and growing interest
overseas, the future of China’s traditional culture looks brighter and more secure
than ever before.

Some people think that dreams are good for success while others argue that

they are not so good because they may be unrealistic. Obviously, dreams are
necessary in our life only if they are encouraging and realistic. First and foremost,
there is power in dreams. Dreams can lead people to the paths they want to go on
and can endow people with passion. Dreams can instill an enthusiastic love of life
that puts a sparkle in our eyes, or a lilt in our voices. Dreams can smooth the wrinkles
from our souls. Furthermore, we are born with wide-eyed, enthusiastic wonder.
Many people have seen an infant’s delight at the jingle of keys or the scurrying of a

2010-2016中国艺术团体赴美演出及国内上映的美国电影数量
It is apparent from the line graph that the number of Chinese art groups
performing in the U.S. and American movies shown in China both increased
between 2010 and 2016. During the six years, the amount of Chinese art groups
performing in the United States jumped from 100 to 460, whereas the number of
American films shown in our country has been on a steady rise from 50 to about
180, a rise of about 130.
Firstly, the fact that people from different countries are attracted to
mysterious Chinese culture indicates that to some extent a culture can be
accepted, respected, appreciated and shared internationally. Secondly, a nation’s
unique culture can become international through worldwide economic and
cultural exchanges. Since the trend of globalization becomes irresistible, the
increasing cultural exchanges can effectively improve mutual understanding and
friendship.
It is my view that national culture should be preserved and cherished as
priceless spiritual treasure. Meanwhile, there are good reasons to advocate
internationalized culture for those ideas from the other cultures, controversial or
even absurd at first sight, can in the long run provide a different perspective for
us to observe the world. Nevertheless, when we are confronted with a different
culture, we should be sensible enough to absorb its essence and to resist its dark
side. Only in this way can we promote national cultural development positively
and make our world multidimensional, colorful and vigorous.

Increasingly, it has become common for university students to take on part-time
jobs or even start their own businesses prior to graduation. From the information
given in the pie chart, we can see a survey on the reasons for starting one’s own
business among college students at a certain university. Those whose goal is to
become entrepreneurs account for 44% of the total, the biggest among all the five
categories, while those who could not find suitable jobs account for 15%.
As long as they are cautious, this kind of real-world experience can greatly
benefit their future careers. Above all, students who launch their own business can
gain valuable insight into their future career paths. Some students may even choose
to switch majors as the result of insight gained from work experience or
entrepreneurial activities. In addition, regardless of whether a student succeeds or
fails in a business venture, the mere fact of having work experience will come in
handy when seeking a full-time job after graduation. Employers will regard students
with such experience as more ambitious, hard-working and mature than graduates
who lack it. However, despite the benefits to students of “getting their feet wet” in

The figures in the above column chart display the stable increase of private cars
from 1980 to 2010. As is shown in the chart, there were five private cars for every
thousand families in 1980. During the next thirty years, the number rose steadily.
It went up to 40 in 2000, and in 2010, there were 70 private cars in every thousand
families.
There are a good many factors for the increase. The main reasons are as
follows. To begin with, with the speedy development of economy and the increase
in people’s income, a large number of families could now afford a car. In addition,
a great many Chinese cities such as Beijing and Shanghai are being extended
with highways and many people’s houses are far from their work places. For these
people, owning a private car could save time and bring a lot of conveniences.
Finally, with the development of highways, transportation is greatly improved,
which means better conditions for drivers, encouraging a lot of people to buy a
car of their own.
From the discussion above, we can conclude that families in mounting
numbers will own private cars, and private cars will become a common household
transportation tool, just like the bicycle today.
