Seeing films is an activity to do for free time and entertainment. Movies can teach people a lot, including knowledge and events. When we watch a foreign movie that's about another culture, we can learn the landscape of the country, the customs of the country, and its historical events.
The world has very beautiful landscapes, from the white Himalayas to the golden Sahara. Each country has its unique scenery. Maybe you will say documentaries can best show the landscape of countries, but from some people's point of view, including me, documentaries are a bit boring. There isn't any plot. Though in movies we focus more on stories and plots, we still pay some of our attention to the landscape. Moreover, we often know which country the landscape belongs to in movies.
We can also learn a lot about the customs of a country while watching films. For example, from western movies, I learned that the habit of eating is very different from that of China. Knowing these differences can help us to respect and accept other cultures.
Historic events can also be learned from movies. Some movies tell real stories or historical stories. These stories may have been recomposed, but they can still show the whole event. U-571 is a great film to watch if we want to know about the navy of Germany during World War 2.
Above all, seeing a film can let us know about the landscape, customs and historical events of a country.
