一、基本含义
vary英英释义“differ in size, amount, degree, or nature from something else of the same general class”。通过查询剑桥高阶英语词典发现其有两个含义，其一“If things of the same type vary, they are different from each other, and if you vary them, you cause them to be different from each other”，例句：①The samples varied in quality but were generally acceptable. （vary in在……方面变化，vary in size大小不同）②Prices vary widely from shop to shop. （vary from不同）③Stopping distances for cars vary with the speed they are travelling at. （vary with随……而变化）
其二“ to change or cause something to change in amount or level, especially from one occasion to another”，例句： My taste in classical music varies greatly/widely, but I usually prefer Mozart or Brahms.
二、用法
vary是个不及物动词，意思是“与……不同，有别于……”，其形容词形式是various（各种各样的），名词形式是variety（品种、种类、多样性、变化），与不及物动词differ可以同义替换。
不同的人有不同的观点（不同的XX有不同的YY）。Different people have different opinions./Opinions vary./Opinions vary from person to person. 相当于“Y(复数) vary from X(单数) to X(单数)”表示“不同的X有不同的Y”。
例句：不同的人有不同的答案。Answers vary from person to person.
不同国家的公假日是不同的。Public holidays vary from country to country.
