On Adopting Different Approches to the teaching of Vocabulary in junior meddle school

Vocabulary is the basic unit of language which is essential to communication. As the famous linguist William Wells said: "While without grammar very little can be  conveyed, without vocabulary nothing canbe conveyed."Therefore, vocabulary teaching is an indispensable part of English lessons in shcool,especially for junior meddle shcool students.So in this way,we can realized that it’s also a important task for the teacher to adopt different approaches to the teaching of vocabulary in junior meddle school.In this paper,i will mainly introduce 3 kinds of useful ways on teaching vocabulary.

First, for the Grate seven(the first grate junior meddle school) students,we must try to provide a visual or physical demonstration whenever possible,using pictures,vedio clips,mine or gesture,body language to show meaning.In this grate,students just out of elementary school,whom cognitive competence didn’t totally developed,thus we’d better adopt more vivid and intuitive methods to teach students so that they can easily understand and absorbed.Take using pictures as example,when we teaching the new words we can use some pictures which related to or illustrate the word. These are placed on the blackboard or the PowerPoint then teacher points to the objects,giving a little time to students think about what’s this and gives their foreign language equivalents.Also especially we need take attention to teaching how to pronounce and correct some mistakes.In such way,the Grate 7 students can accept more easily in their younger ages.

Then,for the Grate 8 students,we can improve our teaching methods after these students learning English one year,because of the growing of their knowledge and cognitive competence.So teachers can create a relatively real situation for  students’ vocabulary learning thus students can integrated into the situation so that they can understand, digest and absorb knowledge easily.For example, when I teach the word open, I open the window and say, "open the window.” Open the door and say:“Open the door.”Open the box and say:“open the box.”Then, when I opened the pencil case with another pencil case, the student could quickly say:“Open the pencil case.”In such way,students can understand the vocabulary"open"easily and deeply.Therefore, in vocabulary teaching, teachers should design some individualized situations so that students can learn words unconsciously and leave a deep impression.

Last,for Grate 9 students,we can use more mature ways,teachers can think about provide different context for introducing new words or in real life where the word might be used or provide a verbal context to demonstrate meaning.For example,when we teach a difficult words-breakfast,we can give them a context-everyday morning,we will eat breakfast such as milk,egg,bread and go to shcool.Then they can guess the word breakfast through the context  everyday morning, milk,egg,bread...and know the meaning of the word.This methods of teaching not only help students to understand the exact meaning of a new word, but let them have an idea about the group of words that often appear simultaneously in harmony.

And all of these are my narrow thoughts about the teaching of vocabulary in different grate junior meddle school.But after teaching new words,teachers also should focus on how to consolidate the vocabulary.All in all,vocabulary teaching is a crucial part of English learning,and teachers should use more appropriate way to make students understand easily and deeply.Students also can improve their English skill after learning vocabulary.
