Chapter 9 Thief Gril

Someone shook me awake. My eyes snapped open to see a to-close face staring down at me, everything around us still shadowed by the darkness of early morning. I opened my mouth to shriek, but a cold hand clamped down on it, gripping it shut. Panic flared until I recognized it was a young girl, who looked very much like my age.

“Shh-, newfishiew , don’t wanna be waking Cubie, now, do we?”

It was a pale face—delicate like a porcelain doll; the air reeked of her morning breath.

Though I was surprised, any alarm melted away immediately. I couldn’t help being curious about “Cubie”she mentioned. Was there anyone else in this room? Damn—how did I not notice a voyeur  before? Wondering, I nodded, doing my best to say yes with my eyes, until she finally took her hand away, then leaned back on her heels.

She was tall and slim. I was able to feel her stare over my head when an odd moment of torturing silence followed. I was frozen by indecision, afraid to get involved, but had I another choice? Besides, I was still  sleepy.

“Who’s Cubie?” as the words sounded themselves, I really wanna bite my tongue.

She looked over me for a long second, the slightest hint of a shock flashing across her face before vanishing in a sneer. “Your focus fell on the wrong place. Momomokie must be crying. That’s your first question, you’re sure about that?”

I pushed myself up into a sitting position, then wiped fresh beads of sweat off my forehead. “Oh, yeah.” I huffed. “, or i can go to ask Fox.”

“Fox?” the girl squeezed her eyes, goggling at me  as if I were a crazy person. “Where did that... Happy...call come from?”

I scowled. “Doesn’t it sound vivid?”

“You know, the very last time, who called him like that, how vivid he look like now?”the girl had looked me square in the face and something was glinting under her pale skin—like ... Fish scale. I scooted back a few inches before I could stop myself. I realized immediately I’d just made a mistake— I couldn’t let my terror stand out.

I pushed myself back upon my knees, so I was able to look down the girl.

“-vividly petrified, screwing up in one artistic styles over the ceiling of the 12th

House, as the 132th free-charged adornment.” she suddenly smiled in a way that made me slightly feel -dangerous. “Let me guess—you wanna be the 133th to enjoy the rest of your life in his palace?”

The rebuke hurt me far more than it should have, but any lingering haze of anger was whipped away at the last word she groaned. “He had a palace?”

“Ah?” the girl gave a dark eye to the ceiling that was probably supposed to give way to my direction. “What’s wrong with a highness to own his palace?”

My heart skipped a beat. Holy baby, who could tell me that was just a bloody joke? That psycho-pass was a prince? which part of his mad characteristic could guide my thoughts connected with a crown? Perhaps a cowboy was fit to him more.

I swayed my head quickly to snap that heavy-taste picture out of my mind. Then something unpleasant rang the bell in my head, reminding me how many time I’d thrown rude words toward him, possibly even cursed him once. Oh, no, I roared inside with a little bit hope that Fox was not a bear grudges, or had a bad memory at least. But the girl who stared at me in the face with an evil smile announced that this time I might take the bad odds. “So he sent you here to bring me back as his...No...what, what did you call...Ha, A decoration?”

“You?” she barked a grunt that was probably supposed to be a sneer. “Forgive my rudeness, you might be the very last one that your highness wanna put in his house. You’re so ... Savage... Wired...” then something seemed to remind the girl who sighed as if bored and muttered, almost to herself. “You are so incredible to lead the conversation to a mysterious way. C’m on, New fishiew.”

Relieved, I let out a breath gingerly. However, her hands flashed over without a warning, and helped me to my feet— she was surprisingly strong it felt like she could rip my arm off. “Your highness asked me to send you out of the Door.”

“What door?”

The girl rubbed her hair impatiently. “Eugh... Home—he means to take your home, clear?” Before this sudden surprise sank its meaning into my mind. She turned back and warned. “No more mysterious, stupid question.”

My eyes blinked. I knew I should hold question, having no reason to trust anyone here yet, but home won out.  I needed to leave this place. I quickly leaned over and slipped n my shoes. “Where are we going?

“Just follow me, and shut up!”
