Salvation consists in being natural and unconsciously good.
I believe this encapsulates Su's philosophy of life, the best that the world can expect from a man who captured the essence of Taoism, Confucianism, and Buddism. Su practiced Confucius's way of acting for righteousness without caring the external results; he restricted his life to what is necessary and natual, on which point even the Taoists will be amazed; he learned from Zen and Budda's perspectives of life without losing faith in humanity. When we admire Su, we are not merely talking about this jolly man who has the spirit of not giving a fuck ( remarkable resillience) about life got to offer, we are in awe of the fact that, hard as it is, he combines three forces of Chinese philosophy in himself and epitomizes what a man can be at his best. Feng youlan says, philosophy is what enables a man, as a man to be a man. I think Su has met that standard of being a man. That is why he is the one we never stopped looking up upon.
Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night
Dylan Thomas(1914-1953)
Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
If you follow in someone's footsteps, you do the same things as they did earlier.
My father is extremely proud that I followed in his footsteps and became a doctor.
His illness dragged on for...
drag on
if an event or situation drags on, it continues for too long
an expensive court battle that could drag on for years
