1.varsity
At many schools, sports are a big deal. Thousands of people flock to college football and basketball games, plus other sports. The members of the starting team are varsity players. Varsity players are the best players: that’s why they start, and they usually finish the game too. It can take a while for a player to make varsity status.
She has been in the playoffs every year since she made the varsity.
2.deciduous
释意
Trees, shrubs, and herbaceous perennials that shed their leaves for part of the year are categorized by botanists as deciduous. In temperate and polar regions, these plants are generally bare during the cold of winter. In other parts of the world, deciduous plants lose their leaves during the dry part of the year. The word deciduous can also be used to describe parts of the body, such as a deer's antlers or human baby teeth, that are cast off seasonally or at a particular period of development.
Tree spotters may be pleased to spot the American larch, a deciduous conifer that isn't found much farther south.
3.shimmy
to do a dance in which you shake your hips and shoulders
She shimmied across the dance floor.
shimmy
if a car shimmies, it has a very light shaking movement that is not the usual movement of the car.
The cat also relies on long claws and highly flexible ankles to scramble among the trees - and even shimmy down tree trunks like a squirrel.
Bennett, who weighed two hundred and thirty-five pounds, drove his shoulder into Beuerlein’s chest and heard what sounded like a balloon being punctured—“basically, the air going out of him.”Beuerlein landed on his back. He stood up, wobbly and dazed.“I saw mouths moving, but I heard no voices,”he later said. He had a concussion. After Bennett’s“vicious, high-speed direct slam,”as the Times put it, Alabama seized the momentum and won, 28–10.
在说撞击的时候,用了一个drive his shoulder into his chest,一个简单的drive就把撞击的场景临摹地异常有临场感。
