In mid-February, the extreme winter weather hit Texas and resulted in a freak snowstorm and millions without power. The catastrophe has been warmed by energy regulators in 2011 as the state’s electric system ware ill-prepared but the state did not take the threat seriously and did not prepare enough for such disaster.
Scientists said the snowstorm was not only caused by global warning but also linked to the occurrence of polar vortex which is a weakened jet stream allows freezing air to drift down to lower latitudes. The snowstorm disabled the Electric-grid and increased the complex of electricity supply and demand calculation. And there are other climate-linked disasters and fallout in US 2020.
The Texas breakouts raise global climate warning that we should think different to treat the new climate. Experts studying climate adaptation advised communities to invest fully in measures, from hardening infrastructure to developing more localized energy production and thinking holistically about the grid as a system, integrating technologies like energy storage.
