Lesson 14    Doyou speak English?

I had anamusing experience last year. After Ihad left a smallvillage in the south of France,I drove onto the next town. On the way, a young man waved to me. I stopped and he asked me for a lift. Assoon as he had got into the car, I said good morning to him in French and herepliedin the same language.Apart from a few words, I do not know any French at all. Neither of us spoke during the journey. I had nearly reachedthe town,when the young man suddenly said,very slowly, ' Do you speakEnglish？' As I soon learnt, hewas English himself!

注意：/eɪ/是个"合口双元音"，即牙床由半开到接近半合，由大到小。发音时音量从强到弱，前长后短，前重后轻。
