Q1: In your observation, what are the characteristics of Chinese parenting?
Q2 What do you like and don't like about Chinese parenting? Why?
After reading some chapters of Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother, I have some ideas about Chinese parenting.
According to the story, we can know how severe the Chinese parenting is. It is about a mother who is the second generation of American immigrants from China teaches her two children in a stern way. Actually, I don’t completely agree with her on parenting. From my point of view, being too strict with children is not absolutely good for them. Although children may become more excellent and careful, it’s a bit cruel to treat children like that at their early age. In the story, the two children are not allowed to get any grade less than an A. Even worse, they can’t play any instrument other than the piano or violin. This will badly make children a learning machine. They don’t have rights to decide what to learn and how to learn. What’s more, they have less entertainment and less joy during their childhood. They are forced to do a lot of things.
Nowadays,Chinese parenting is spreading from place to place. As the old saying goes,”Hope the son to grow up into a dragon and the daughter to grow into a phoenix.” Parents want their children to be better and better, so they are strict with their children about everything. Chinese parenting has its advantages that it can exercise someone’s volition. However, high scores are focused more than the cultivation of social practice ability.
All in all, Chinese parenting has advantages and disadvantages as well. It needs to be improved gradually.
