The Book Report on Animal Farm
The book, Animal Farm, tells about a story how animalsfightfor freedom. The plot of the story is organized as follows. At first, the pig namedMajor called on all animals to rebel against human. Listening to old Major’swords, theanimals won the battle to get rid of their master called Mr. Jones. Finally;they established a new system calledanimalism.
It is encouraging thatanimals who were suffering could stand out for themselves. However, the livesof animals were still miserable. The reasons why they couldnot live a happylifeare discussed in the following paragraphs.
One reason foranimals’ misery istheir ignorance. When it comes to learning the letters, onlypigs were capable of spelling all letters. Most of the animals, such as sheep, hen and duck could get no further than letter A. It is not surprising that pigswere responsible for managing all the issues in the farm. As a result, pigscould do everything at will. For example, Napoleon (the pig whotook charge ofthe farm at last) changed their commandment from‘All the animals are equal’to‘All the animals are equal but some animals are more equal than others’. Is not the new commandment ridiculous? Even so, pigs could commandothers just because theywere smarter than other animals. It can be seen that pigs became the new master amonganimals.
The other reason isthat animals, except for pigs, did not have proper judgment. Ignorance resultsin blindness. Take a cart-horse named Boxeras an example, it had two favoritemaxims: ‘I will worker harder’ and ‘Comrade Napoleon is always right’. It devoted its whole life to labor. However, the loyal, kind and dedicated Boxerwas sold to a local knacker by Napoleon. What is sadder is that Napoleon used themoney to buy himself whisky. Blind obedience contributes to the tragedy.
It is clearly that the destiny of animals had not changed at all, although the master had changed from human to animal. Every story tries to tell people something,Animal Farmis no exception. When complaining about the society, it is more acceptable to use a metaphor. The animals in the story are a metaphor. The author tried to reveal the misery of the peoplein that age. The details of the metaphor will not be discussed in this passage, because it is neither appropriate nor easy.
In a nutshell, GeorgeOrwell tried toreveal people’s hard life in thisbook. It reminds us of the history.
