The process of almost any special skill we train ourselves is like to draw a circuit loop in the brain and wire that skill into the unconsciousness system so that we don't have to light up the whole consciousness area again and again to accomplish the task we've already been so familiar with, at the meantime, to save the precious energy. The more mistake we make, the clearer the outline is. Then wrap up the little package of the circuit board, throw it into long term memory, even the slightest touch from outside world is going to activate the whole circuit.
A lot of calculations run beneath the unconsciousness we are not even aware of, such as eating with chopsticks, holding a cup of coffee and sip it from a right angle. Human uses the whole childhood to shape a proper brain and construct unconsciousness system to deal with the world. During that critical period of intelligence developing, language is so natural being wired into the brain...Left hemisphere is the language kingdom, we got Broca's area and Wernicke's area, the first language we learn to speak is growing up together with these areas, they're completing each other and it is just like an instinct of speaking our mother tongue. It seems very hard to acquire another language as it for an adult just like the immune system rejects almost anything not belongs to you because there is only one King. It is so different from other skills, but it is so appealing...
Defeat a King? Extremely hard, but possible. Language, is the very element to make up stories, we are all story addicts, because it is the story to give the meanings to our actions, without meanings we are going to fall apart. We who have different beliefs believe in different stories. In the dark night, without the inference of consciousness we easily wander into dreams, and what we learned from our dreams? Maybe one of the main functions is to link every possible scene and sensation experience into One, a story or just an idea. Back when I was a high school student I was deeply impressed with a story that a German organic chemistAugust Kekuléfound the ring shape of the benzene in his dream, working hard to study the structure of carbon-carbon bonds, one day he was exhausted into a nap, atoms and molecules was dancing in his dream, suddenly a snake bit its own tail then he woke up from the dream with a remarkable idea that the shape of benzene should be a ring.
So the question is : can we actually learn another language and kick the King out of language kingdom in the dream, the unconscious state of mind? Perhaps the best wish is that we can learn in night-dreaming just like children learn things in day-dreaming.
