During spring festival this year, I traveled for the first time to Thailand. One of my first stops was to an elephant sanctuary. For many years, elephants have been a major tourist attraction in Thailand. People come to Thailand from all over the world to ride on elephants, but this is very bad for elephants’ backs. On top of this, the elephants are often mistreated, maybe kicked, beaten or put in chains, in order to control them. Fortunately, there are many organizations that have tried to stop this and set up new ways for tourists to experience elephants.
今年春节期间，我第一次去泰国旅行。我的第一站是一个大象圣所。多年来，大象一直是泰国的主要旅游景点。人们从世界各地来到泰国乘坐大象，但这对大象的背部非常不好。除此之外，大象经常被虐待，可能被踢，殴打或放在笼中，以便控制它们。幸运的是，有很多组织试图阻止这种情况，并为游客体验大象创造了新的方式。
The elephant sanctuary I visited had six elephants that had previously been used for riding. Now they get to spend their days hanging out, swimming and eating tasty food! When we arrived, we began by feeding the elephants watermelons, bananas, palm leaves and rice balls. Next, we walked through the forest with the elephants. The elephants would stop frequently to eat some leaves off of the trees. We walked down to the river and some elephants decided to swim. Later, some elephants decided to go play in the mud. The experience was incredible because we got to be so close to the elephants and see them behave like normal elephants.
我参观的大象圣殿有六只大象，以前曾用于骑行。现在他们在闲逛，游泳并且吃美味的食物！当我们到达时，我们开始喂大象西瓜，香蕉，棕榈叶和米饭球。接下来，我们和大象一起走过森林。大象会经常停下来吃树上的一些叶子。我们走到河边，有些大象决定去游泳。后来，一些大象决定在泥里玩。我们很开心可以如此近距离地观察大象，并看到他们正常的生活。
Elephants are amazing creatures. They may be large but they are very gentle. It’s a shame that so many have been mistreated. If you get a chance, I highly recommend visiting an elephant sanctuary and seeing the elephants in their natural habitats. In the jungle where they know how to live.
大象是很神奇的生物。他们体型很大，但他们很温柔。但令人伤心的是这么多大象被虐待。如果你有机会，我强烈建议访问大象保护区，看看在自然栖息地的大象。在丛林里他们知道如何生活。
