I had an amusing experience last year. After I had left a small village in the south of France, I drove on to the next town. On the way, a young man waved to me. I stopped and he asked me for a lift. As soon as he had got into the car, I said good morning to him in French and he replied in the same language. Apart from a few words, I do not know any French at all. Neither of us spoke during the journey. I had nearly reached
the town,when the young man suddenly said,very slowly, ' Do you speak English？' As I soon learnt, he was English himself!

音标专练：[ʌ]
发音要点：
发音时，舌端离下齿，舌尖轻触下齿，舌中部稍稍抬起，舌位介于低和中低之间，整个舌身在口腔处于低平状态。这是中元音中舌位最低的一个。
牙床介于开和半开之间，是中元音中牙床开的最大的一个。
双唇扁平。
这个发音有点像发“啊”音时突然被谁卡住了脖子的感觉，所以叫“短啊音”。
这是个短元音。短元音一定要短促有力，收小腹！
注意：上下唇及上下齿微张，脸部肌肉放松，舌头自然垂放，舌尖轻轻抵住下齿龈，振动声带即成。注意区别[ʌ]和[ɑː]

录音前跟着音标、原音顺了好几遍，读的时候果然顺畅一些。但有些音仍略感生硬，比如soon，during，关注音标后发现以往的读法好像不对。
