A Few Words Polished Me a Lot
In my growing-up process, there have been many teaches who have rendered me with sincere guidance and help. One of them was Ms Shen, who impressed me the most. It was she who helped me rediscover confidence and corrected my life trajectory.
In 1992, I was enrolled by the County High School, an admiring school because of my excellent performance in the entrance exam. During the first year of my high school study, on one hand, I had been concentrating myself on the complacency as an study leader during the junior high school, regarding that the high school courses were just so so. On the other hand, I had been deeply attracted by the relative prosperity and novelty of the County town. So always on the streets I was watching and in game rooms I was playing electrical games. As a result, I deserved the poor performance in studies. At the end of the first year, my score stepped into the eighth reciprocal place of my class and in the bottom 50 in the whole grade. With game master hand, Pingpang Prince and much disappointment, I began the torment of the second year in high school.
Because of the serious blow arisen from poor study performance, I once gave up fancying entering college. In the first composition evaluation class, when Ms Shen stepped into the classroom, she glanced at me unintentionally, much praise and expect in her eyes. With mentally perturbed mood, her soft and refreshing voice flew into my ears, “In this class, I wanted to change the teaching style. First of all, I will read a few model essays and your comments are requested. Then the first model essay is as follows…”Just listening to the beginning of the essay, I became so surprised that my heart missed a beat. Ah, this was my writing.
Still focusing myself on the first time that my composition had been read in class, I heard Ms Shen continue, “Now all of you are requested to analyze what shortcomings exist in the general layout of this composition.” This sentence, just like a thunderbolt, stabbed my fragile nerve. However, before classmates responded to her question, Ms Shen continued, “You may feel strange why I kicked off the class with an imperfect composition. When I first open the exercise book of this student, the beautiful handwriting shined and impressed me deeply. Reading over, I found the writing demonstrated many features such as smooth cohesion and coherence, nice language. Once the existing faults are corrected, this must be an excellent composition. Meanwhile, I believe that he performed well in the studies of any other subject.”Hearing her commenting words, I felt refreshed as I was bathing in the spring breeze. I mentally ignored how classmates commented on my writing, just digesting her each word. My heart completely unloaded, with just the determination toward advancement inside.
Afterwards, with the influence of Ms Shen, I deeply loved handwriting and studying. I determined to become a good teacher, just like Ms Shen. In the entrance exam for college, my total score ranked forth and Chinese score ranked the first in the grade of my high school. I deserved her efforts and was enrolled by a famous college, majoring in English teaching.
It has been more that ten years since my graduation from high school, I have been an English teacher at a college. Her teaching ideology always affects my teaching practice. I always tell my students: “Among you, there are no poor students. All of you are outstanding.”
