Important Quality that I Look For in a Teacher
The very first important quality that I look for in a teacher is taking their career seriously with the sense of responsibility. I am going to talk about this with my bad experience as negative examples, I had a teacher last year that did a really lousy job as a teacher.
She messed up with attendance A LOT and I didn’t find that out until someday she asked me “where were you yesterday?” And I was like, what in the world are you even talking about?! And I was actually too naive to think that this was an accident only. When I looked at my final report card, you can imagine how I was in great surprise to find out that she marked me almost 40 times absences.
Another example is she never actually taught a class AT ALL. All she did in class was just playing movies, playing dump games, giving out papers, telling us to do homework and memorize and prepare for tests. This is actually not the worst part for me because I do have the ability to study on my own. When I was actually absent, she asked me to make up my homework. And I did the homework and handed in. And then she gave me all zeros on my homework and told me she won’t grade homework that hand in late. What, the, ****?!
There was more. I didn’t finish my test one time because I had health issues. Two times, I asked for staying after school to finish my tests. And two times I came after school she told me she had something else to do so and she was sorry about that. So I stayed after school twice for nothing, and I had to stay until the late bus came. However, even if it was her fault, she graded my unfinished test and told me when I questioned: “I have my own life. I can’t wait for you forever.”
This is not the worst teacher I’ve ever had, but clearly, it’s bad enough for a negative example
of the sense of responsibility.
The second quality I look for is not to bring too many personal opinions and emotions that completely not related to the class in an academic way (some teachers sometimes actually designed the whole class for putting their own personal opinions on students too) especially about politics and religions and other sensitive issues. I was really offended by a teacher before, but I don’t want to talk about it, really don’t.
Also, it will be important for me for the teacher be nice and patient to… tolerate the students, but not in a spoiled way. I really don’t like the study hall in the school. Everything happens there except for studying. Those students just couldn’t stop talking loud and the teachers don’t care or even join the talking with the students sometimes, which seems nice to some students, but really annoying to me because I just want to get my work done IN PEACE!
But so far I really like every teacher in my class this year. I am not finicky on teachers at all, I can work with most of the teachers, unless the teachers are too nasty in their teaching way like the only purpose they are here is the paycheck and the paycheck is far from enough for them. If you ask me how do teachers affect me, I’ll say a good teacher at least gives me some willingness and joyfulness to do my work, especially when I am really having a bad day.
