So I’ve been reading some books about study skills recently, and have come to realize this upsetting truth: Maybe the learning method I’ve been using was misleading and inefficient.
In the bookMake it stick, learning is supposed to be hard and effortful. The more effort it takes to retrieve the knowledge, the better you’ll remember it.
What’s more upsetting, learning is supposed to be slow and repetitive, and you should let some forgetting take place (forgetting curve).
According to the author, massed practice seems to produce good results in the short-term, but interleaving and mixed practice, with some retrieval effort, would yield better results.
Writing as a learning tool
Writing is a process of stressing your points and clearing your mind. You could build your own body of knowledge and toolbox, letting the knowledge grow from the inside. In this process, several rules must be followed(writing, logical).
