Of course there are regrets and details that could have been dealt with better. But generally it was not bad. I am happy about it. I felt so much more relaxed after the lesson. A friend reminded me that this was nothing that is worth effort as I am already a senior with ten year experience, which is true and this activity does not provide any external motivation for us. Just say I am silly and naive...
I spent a harmonious night with the kids. He finished the whole book of number writing and I asked him what we should do. He said Sodoku and then said no I do want to do that. Quickly he said let’s draw! I said yes. He rummaged around the drawer and found himself a ruler, which he used to draw lines, and he was very proud of the straight lines and the boxes he scrabbles.
A few minutes later, he lost interest in the ruler and started to draw little circles which he claimed to be little cells and virus. He kept drawing more cells and virus and narrated the whole process. According to him, there was a war between cells and virus and soon cells asked antibiotics to help.
I found an encyclopedia about microorganism and turned to the page about supervirus. I came up with the idea of drawing a super antibiotic capsule, and he loved the idea. Together we colored the pill and then drew a super virus. He seemed to enjoy the drawing very much. After the drawing, he picked it up and admired it with a big smile; also he showed it to his grandparents.
This process got me thinking, maybe maomao is not uninterested in drawing or painting, it is just that I did not guide him to taste the beauty of patinting yet. Also because I was not really interested in it.
Now I realize why it takes 3 generations to cultivate an elite. Cause what the grandparents, parents mastered can influence the kids in a great way.
