Ⅱ. 词汇
1. enfant terrible
It was a matter of sustenance of the spirit to have on one's shelves the works of a man with great charm, originality, and integrity of purpose, an enfant terrible, a great original mind that could not conform.
Traditionally, it refers to a child who is terrifyingly candid by saying embarrasing things to parents or others. However, the expression has drawn multiple usage in careers of art, fashion, music, and other creative arts. In these careers, it implies a successful "genius" who is very strinking and in some cases, offensive or rebellious. Exactly Su Tungpo is.
2. pristine
He wrote for no other reason than that he enjoyed writing, and today we enjoy his writing for no other reason than that he wrote so beautifully, generously, and out of the pristine innocence of his heart.
Definition: [formal] Pristine things are extremely clean or new.
Sentence: No man ever looks at the world with pristine eyes.
3. lame
That is the kind of charm which I am trying to describe in my lame and halting fashion and which has made him the favorite poet of so many Chinese scholars.
Definition: If you describe something, for example an excuse, argument, or remark, as lame, you mean that it is poor or weak.(借口、论点、评论等)站不住脚的;蹩脚的;拙劣的
Sentence: I found a very lame excuse for my getting up late.
