Continue working on the book "Breakthrough Rapid Reading" by Peter Kump. I haven't made much progress since I first picked up the book, but I'm determined to use it to improve my reading speed.
I'm on page 34, "practice drills for week 2". The goal of these drills is to reduce regression yet understand reading materials. The first drill: read pages, record time, then read the same material over and over again, for about five times. Then, calculate the number of words per minute (WPM). Once you reach certain threshold, you can proceed to the next drill.
The key here is practicing the same material over and over again, so that you can have a steady improvement on comprehension. It's very tempting to move forward with new materials too fast. Try to resist that feeling.
I noticed this applies to other subjects as well. During my karate practice, the instructors make students practice materials they already know again and again, so that they can remember them better and do them better. Some students feel bored and always want new materials, the instructor would explain the reason behind the repeated practice, so that the students understand that those practices are important for solidifying their material arts foundation. I really appreciate that.
