Everything up to this point is de-emphasized by our current calendar system
Now I don't think the Holocene calendar is practical to adopt. The history that MOST affects our lives today is the last 500 years. But I found I tended to ignore the last 3 digits when my calendar year was 5 digits long. So the current Gregorian calendar is more practical for recent history.
However, the Holocene calendar can give us a better understanding of ancient events like the invention of farming, the first towns, the domestication of the horse, and the beginning of the bronze age.
I think its a useful thought experiment to help us get perspective.
