John took Mili to a party of old friends. His photographer friend fed Mili too much, took too many photos of her, and was sitting next to her telling her the places he intended to take her to. An old friend of the photographer commented: " He takes women and takes pics of women." John burst out a laugh, an acid laugh filled with unsatisfactory and jealousy. Introduced by a friend, John has known Mili for a while. He had a Chinese mistress Mei years ago, but she was much older than Mili. May left John but he still watched CCTV every day. He was the kind who loved deep and silently like an unceasing current under the surface of a sea. While the photographer was kissing every woman goodbye, John didn't even tell the host that he brought some wine for them. He laughs at his own cowardliness occasionally as well. John likes to take Mili around town and ask her questions about China, usually, he will provide an answer immediately after asking the question and then waited for her response.
Mili was used to being surrounded by men of all ages. She got the eye to appreciate the mellowness of the old and the energy of the young. She refers to it as the beauty of sunrise and sunset. After being dumped after a three-year relationship, she decided never to fall victim to men again. She played the game right. In the afternoon she went to late lunch with the John. John gave her a few glasses of wine and they flirted mildly. She would touch his mustache and say how purely white and incurably messy is it. He would in response catch her little hand and gently stroke it. John was the starter in the noon. To suit for the main course at night, she needs to change her character and outfit. In the night, Mili put on her brightest dress, warping her body so tightly that her boobs and hips exaggerate. Carroll was the owner of "Bazaar Night". Mili was the social butterfly in the bazaar night. She circles around the new customers like dancing the waltz, brings them drinks, laughs her wildest laugh, hugs every woman she meets and responds to every flirtatious eye. Her black hair would waver as she moved around. Every time after the noon starter, she will ask John to send her back home so he wouldn't suspect. She has to keep the consistency of the different characters that she played.
One day, the photographer told John Mili used to dance at the night club and he showed John pictures of Mili in a yellow bright dress. John was annoyed but also pleased for the maturity Mili presented in the picture. He decided to arrange an adventure at the age of sixty. He pondered before his closet for days until choosing one yellowish suit and a hat to cover his bald head. He also used a week to gradually adjust his bio clock so he asked his servant to bring his coffee at 10 a.m. On one Friday night, Mili saw John coming in the night club. She stood still in shock and it was already too late for her to turn away when she realized what happened. His eyes were the only eyes she didn't dare to look at in the club. She condemned in her mind: "The sound here could bring you a proper heart attack." Actually, Mili was so shocked that she forgot how deaf he could be and having a heart attack would actually be his last concern. "Why are you here? " Her face stiffened and she couldn't squeeze a single smile out. "Well, I am here to look for someone.", he answered in hesitation. "Like for a conversation with an old friend? " She tried not to sound so sarcastic. "It doesn't matter, bring me some drinks." He sat down on the sofa at the corner. "Eva, bring the gentleman some drinks!" Mili shouted. The night was getting wild and Carroll's hands around Mili's wrist slowly moved to her hips, slide it from top to bottom slowly, up and down. John kept telling himself he was only here to appreciate Mili's dance, he counted from 1 till 100 in his heart. But after three shots of whiskey, John wanted to thrust a knife into the man. His face was turning red as his anger was bottling up. He went towards Carroll, pushed him aside, and took Mili by the wrist. Before he could relish on his victory, the big beard man threw his fist on John's face. Mili jumped over Carroll and used all her effort to hold his arms. Carrol shook Mili off and laughed grimly: "Is this your father? Or your grandfather?" Mili's tears burst out for humiliation. Seeing John's white beard tinted by the red neon light, his face red as if it's going to explode. She couldn't help laughing as well. So Mili was laughing and crying at the same time. John squeezed his eyes into a line. Mili dragged John towards the toilet. The yellow suit stumbled across the dancing floor. "Who do you think you are? Do you come here to humiliate me?" "I can't allow that man to do that to you," John said. "What?" "Put his hands there like that. " John brought Mili on the floor as he kneeled down, moved his head towards Mili and tried to press his lips onto hers. This is the first time he tried to kiss her. Mili's eyes were all black as tears ruined her make-up. She is now a little ugly butterfly on tip of the flame of love. Just when their lips were touching, a young lady came out of the toilet and threw the most despicable look at them. John pulled back. Mili felt a surge of distaste in her stomach, stood up and dashed out without a word.
