With the dramatic plots and the happy ending, I eventually read over the book. The course of reading was full of funny and suffering.
What moved me most was his mother's spirit of perserverance. She insisted on developing herself and opened a new world for Trevor. The solid faith of her finally triumphed over all the trials, even the kiss of death.
Trevor was born as the mix of various races, and doomed to life's ups and downs owe to the background of apartheid. He made a lot of troubles with his naughty nature and was lectured by his mother with various methods. Growing up with the chants of Church, Trevor was immersed in the atmosphere of faith. Despite of the rough conditions of existence, he remained a sunlight and enterprising man. He was good at transferring his disadvantage into the bright side. Inherited from his mother, he never gave up and kept creating one and another opportunities to confront different obstacles.
He made some fools of himself in chasing the girls, including missing the true love as he was pleased with his own rules, bringing a beautiful partner to party where he found them unable to communicate in the same language, and etc. The suffering and sweet experience was interluded into the book to make reading easy and pleasant. His cornrows hairstyle was still making me laugh a while when I reviewed.
To his two fathers, Trevor also described in details and carved out the distinct personalities. His father of flesh and blood, a typical Swiss-man, loved him in silence after being forced to leave from him. His stepfather, originally a helpful man with hot temper, once helped him to revenge, gradually showed as a chauvinist and usually drunken, at length even shot his mother.
His other pads and partners were narratated in different degrees according to the storyline. The main line was centered on the apartheid. The surrounding description served for the theme and highlighted the protagonist.
The whole story gave me a deep impression that only the strong and powerful belief would break through the obstacles, involving natural and manmade. The blindly belief always helps if the forward road is uncertainty. Live Optimistically and open a new world like Trevor's mother. It's my acquisition after reading.
