I have two wonderful friends, Susan and Jason, who are two protagonists in my today’s story.
Three of us were once classmates for a year, when it was the last year of our senior high. Most of us were studying hard for our dream university, but they were busy with romantic adventure.
There have been many interesting happenings to them along the way, which I will probably recount later on if you have an interest.
Unlike most of the premature love stories succumbing to a long march, their story is different, ending up with a happy marriage.
Susan and Jason fell in love for six years and have been married for one year. They both are their first love, which has added more colors to their legendary love.
When the wedding bells rang last year, I saw the bride and groom’s tears streaming down their cheeks. At that point, I knew the tears were not salty but rather sweet, as sweet as grapes in the middle of autumn. Oh, I was the best man at the wedding. They have my best wishes and greatest admiration.
Here’s a story Jason told me a couple of months ago. I really love it and I can’t wait to share it with you.
One day, while Jason was browsing through the shopping sites online, he saw a set of beautiful Bluetooth headphones called AirPods, which was what he had always wanted to buy. But its exorbitant price made him intimidated, especially considering his flat wallet.
At that moment, it suddenly occurred to him that Valentine's Day was 5 days away. He should buy his wife a present.
He knew what Susan wanted: a necklace and its kind, which they had seen in a shopping mall a few days ago. They didn't make the purchase because Susan thought it was too expensive.
Jason understood what's more important to him. The gratification of the headphones could be delayed for a while, but the gift he would give to his wife couldn't, so he placed the order immediately. Of course, he did it quietly without having his wife know.
Days later, a parcel was delivered. However, another thing made Jason puzzled. He wanted to give Susan a big surprise but didn't know where to hide the gift.
At last, he thought of a perfect place: their wardrobe. Inside the wardrobe was a quilt. If hidden there, it would be difficult to sniff out.
When he opened the door and unfolded the quilt, he found a beautiful box lying inside. His curiosity drove him to unwrap it.
“Oh, my God,” exclaimed Jason.
It was a pair of Airpods, next to which was a note, saying: Honey, Happy Valentine’s Day.
Startlingly, Jason stood still, with a bewildered look on his face.
“Oh, my God,” Jason gave another exclamation of surprise. He was in a complete daze for a few minutes. After his mind cleared, he seemed to have remembered something.
On the day when he was looking through the headphones on the Web, Susan stood alongside and asked what kind he liked most. Without thinking much, he blurted out, “Airpods.”
Having calmed down, Jason placed the box back to where it had been, and then found another place to hide the necklace.
Jason pretended that nothing had happened, waiting for the big day to arrive. It was not until Susan took out the present that he stared at her in wide-eyed amazement.
