Postcards always spoil my holidays. Last summer, I went to Italy. I visited museums and sat in public gardens. A friendly waiter taught me a few words of Italian. Then he lent me a book. I read a few lines, but I did not understand a word. Every day I thought about postcards. My holidays passed quickly, but I did not send cards to my friends. On the last day I made a big decision. I got up early and bought thirty-seven cards. I spent the whole day in my room, but I did not write a single card!

1. spoil

If you spoil something, you prevent it from being successful or satisfactory. 毁坏，破坏

比如： It's important not to let mistakes spoil your life.

"The sun is very bad. "It says, "to come and spoil my fun! "

If you spoil children, you give them everything they want or ask for. This is considered to have a bad effect on a child's character. 宠坏，娇惯，溺爱

比如： Julie loves her son too much. She has spoiled him.

If food spoils or if it is spoiled, it is no longer fit to be eaten. 使食物变坏；食物变坏

比如： We all know that fats spoil by becoming rancid

2. friendly

虽然和很多副词一样以-ly结尾，但是却是形容词，友好的

比如： She gave me a friendly greeting.

He is not very friendly to John.

If you are friendly with someone, you like each other and enjoy spending time together.

比如： I'm friendly with his mother.

3. lend

和borrow借来相反，借出

比如： Would you lend me your pen?

Can I borrow your book?

Every day I thought about postcards.

My holidays passed quickly, but I did not send cards to my friends.

On the last day I made a big decision.

I got up early and bought thirty-seven cards.

4. make a decision

做决定、拿主意

比如： It was not easy for me to make this decision.

I’ve made a wrong decision. 

Scene4. 

I spent the whole day in my room, but I did not write a single card!

5. spend

spend 可以和表示时间、钱的词或者短语连用，表示花时间、精力、花钱

比如： By the end of the holiday I had spent all my money.

You shouldn't spend so much effort on it.

We're going to spend three days in the country.

spend的主语通常是人，和spend不同，cost也表示花费，但是主语通常是物(it)

比如： The course Read-a-thon is limited to 30 people and costs ￥4000. 

It costs more than a year to build that bridge.
