Today is Monday.
It is the last chapter of this wonderful book. Something important was taking place in Mama's house on that particular night. It was way past ten. Everyone usually had been fast asleep, but at that moment no one was. And there were two persons, Doctor Fuch and Tanta, in the house too. Papa walked back and forth in the kitchen and Mama and her bed were moved into the front room. The girls whispered excitedly about something, except Gertie. The smallest girl was choked by a lump of wanting-to-cry. The coming baby made her feel as if she would lose the love from Mama and Papa. I t was a long night and after the girls fell asleep in the end for hours, Ella was waken up by a wail of a baby. She sat up and went to the kitchen, finding that Papa was crying, holding a little bundle in his arms. She asked why he was crying and then she knew the baby was a boy. She suddenly understood that her father was crying for happiness, because he had wished to have a son for many years. In the next morning the girls were so happy watching the red face new baby, named Charlie. Even Gertie loved to be an older sister. They looked Mama and asked if they could still be called an all-of-a-kind family. Mama smiled and told them that it meant they were all close and loving and loyal--and their family would always be that.Everyone agreed and even baby Charlie opened his mouth as if he were about to speak, but it was only a yawn.
