The extreme winter weather hit Texas and caused several inches of snow and left millions without power. The catastrophe can be linked to a string of planning failures, such as not-hardened electricity infrastructure and offline power plants for maintenance.The cascade of failures in Texas signals that 21st century will look nothing like those that came before. One cause is the global warming which is linked with the so-called polar vortex. As Global warming intensifies, the climate-linked disasters and their fallout will be increasingly difficult to manage. One solution is that communities invest fully in measures that have proved working, from hardening infrastructure to developing more localized energy production. Planners are suggested to think holistically in the new climate environment.
