Chinese Culture Illuminates New Year’s Eve Celebration in the U.S.
On December 31, 2016, the famous New Year’s Eve celebration took place at Times Square New York, the world's crossroads. This celebration, known as the "American Spring Festival Gala” attracts millions of audience around the world each year to welcome the new year. Invited by the event organizer, song and dance performance “Explore the Beauty of China along the Silk Road” was directed by famous singer Lu Kun with assistance from singer Feifei Yang. They presented repertoires at the main stage such as "Guests from far Please Stay“ and “Uncover Your Veil”, full of Chinese ethnic culture and style.
As the guest artists opening the night’s performance, New York based Chinese young singer, famous huqin virtuoso Feifei Yang’s outstanding interpretation of Silk Road songs won warm cheers from the audience. This was the first time a Chinese female singer appeared at Times Square New Year’s Eve Countdown. She performed in collaboration with singer Lu Kun, together with Mariah Carey and other international stars, sent the New Year’s wishes to billions of live broadcast viewers around the globe.
A singer and huqin virtuoso from Liaoning, Feifei Yang is an active young Chinese musician. Her talents were shown at the United Nations, Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Barclays Center and other international prestigious venues, her released albums Dance of the Strings and Vermillion Bird received wide acclaims. She also participated in the production of a number of concerts to promote Chinese culture and arts overseas. Based on her outstanding achievements in the field of culture and arts both in front and behind the scenes, the New York State Government and the New York City Government awarded her Outstanding Contribution Award. This year, she will release a new single and MV Tug of War, tailored by the Hollywood team to further expand the influence of Chinese young artists in the world.
Chinese singers Zhang Ruobing, Lu Xi, Luo Yihan, and dancers Lin Wanru, Zhou Jun, Zhou Guidong, Liu Yuxi, Li Jiao also performed in the event. A few billboards at Times Square displayed “The Belt and Road Initiative” promotional video and "Happy New Year" greetings in Chinese. Chinese Consul General in New York Zhang Qiyue presented at the event, New York Mayor Bill de Blasio sent his congratulatory message. At the end of the night’s climax, the United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon started the New Year's Ball Drop, who dedicated the last day of his 10-year term to New York City.
