Coach’s Notes
1. STU Touch Rugby is a special group: we are not simply a club for sports. We are a family where members have the sense of belonging. What’s more, we are supported by Li Ka Shing Foundation. That’s why we got the chance to join these competitions with reimbursement. Many other teams have to pay by themselves, but some of them play very well because they are very active and keep practicing. The expectation of the Li Ka Shing Foundation for us is not to win the prize but to make the best of ourselves to represent Shantou University. For example, nowadays when it comes to Touch Rugby, people would think of South China Agricultural University. But if we keep working hard, it is hopeful that people would also think of Shantou University in the near future. We have to pay back the foundation for their support with more energy and time on rugby.
2. My personal experience about playing touch rugby: when I was at your age, I worked very hard in order to be in the school team. I would go to the field half an hour in advance to practice by myself every time before training. No pains, no gains. You have to invest energy and time if you have a goal in mind, especially for playing touch rugby. There are 4 Ss important for a strong touch rugby player: speed, stamina, skill and strategy. Only strategy is necessary to be practice with your teammates, which means that you can improve the other three on your own.
3. What we should do next: first, improve yourselves with the first 3 Ss I mentioned before. You can borrow the rugby to practice. Second, keep practicing the strategy with your partner.
4. I hope that everyone can take the spirit and ways of thinking for rugby to your study and future life.
