In many cities, planners tend to arrange shops, schools, offices, and homes in specific areas and separate them from each other. Do you think the advantages outweigh the disadvantages?
题目分析
有不少烤鸭表示“看不懂题目”，也有烤鸭说“这什么鬼题目完全不会写”，同时，城市规划专业的同学笑了。
是不是这次雅思考试题目特别难呢？
Yes and no.
从主题角度看确实有点儿难度，因为和教育、环境、经济相比，城市规划主题(urban planning)出现频率并不是非常高。
然而，从写作角度看这属于正常雅思难度，因为题目和生活息息相关，我们运用常识是能想出论点和论据的。
估计有同学说：城市规划和我有一毛钱关系吗？我怎么知道好不好？
我们看一看自己生活的城市，是不是都有“住宅区”，“工业区”，“休闲区”，近些年还建成了“中央CBD”, “大学城”？这种现象就是城市分区(zoning)，我们并不陌生。
背景知识
事实上，中国古代早在周朝就开始进行城市分区了。王城的中心是宫殿，布局原则遵守“前朝后市，左祖右社”，道路是“经纬涂制，井田方格网”，市场、衙门、坟墓都有固定的位置，而王公贵族、官员和平民也有各自的居住区。在这样的基础上，建成了各大名满天下的长安、临安、北平等古都。今天大名鼎鼎的“中国硅谷”——中关村曾经是太监的墓地。
西方社会则是到了工业革命才开始有计划地进行分区。由于建设缺乏规划，许多欧洲城市住宅、工业、商业混杂，造成污染和混乱，甚至引发瘟疫流行。于是，人们开始意识到应该把不同功能的建筑分开，建立居住、工作、休闲的专属区域，再建立交通网把不同区域连接起来。现代新建的城市，基本都是依照这样的思想规划且建立的。
构思阶段
回到今天的题目，了解了“城市分区”的概念后，开始头脑风暴它的益处和弊端吧。
益处有：提高人们生活质量，因为分区以后工业污的染都留在工业区，商业的嘈杂都留在商业区，住宅还是安静舒适的。
坏处：增加了交通的时间和金钱成本，因为上班休闲都要开车开很久，对于有孩子的家庭，或者没有车的家庭都造成不便。
总的来说，还是好处多。

Separating different areas has dramatically bettered the quality of life for citizens. These days, most urban dwellers spend their day time working in the busy industrial or commercial district, and go home at night to a quiet residential district. Factories create various pollutions, which are limited in industrial areas of the city. Likewise, the hustle and bustle of the shopping mall and a Central Business District are kept within the city centre. This arrangement allows workers to concentrate on their work in the workplace and have a good night sleep at home, mantaining a healthy work-life balance.
主体段2: 讲坏处，也要展开，但最后说问题能解决
On the other hand, this type of urban planning means an increased cost of traveling. Living far away from the heart of the city, commuters have to travel long distances to work daily, and in case of traffic jams, they might be late for work. The problem is worsened if people do not have a car. Also, it is an issue for parents to pick up their children if the workplace is far away from the school. However, if the government makes effort to enhance the public transport system, the issue can be addressed.
结尾：重申中心论点，城市规划大法好
To sum up, building areas with specific functions is a good idea. Even though some people may find it difficult to get around in the urban area, the problem can be handled by proper road planning.
