Today is Wednesday.
Andrew waited until the second bell rang. Then he hurried to his class and sat down. He took out a book and tried to read it. He heard a lot of whispering but he didn’t look up. Miss Kelly snapped her fingers and asked the children to settle down and stop chattering. Everybody giggled. She asked Lisa what was so funny and let Lisa tell her the joke. Lisa stood up and told Miss Kelly that that was because Andrew Marcus. Miss Kelly asked Andrew to stand up and she wanted to have a look at him. Andrew stood up. Miss Kelly said good heavens and asked Andrew what he had done to himself. Andrew answered that he grew freckles, his blue dots looked silly but he didn’t care. He turned toward Sharon and stuck out his tongue. Sharon made a frog face at him. Miss Kelly took a deep breath and said she saw. And then she asked Andrew to sit down and asked the children to get on with their morning work. At recess Nicky Lane turned around and said whoever had heard of blue freckles. Andrew didn’t answer him. He sat in class all day with his blue freckles. A couple of times Miss Kelly looked at him kind of funny but she didn’t say anything.
