Today is Saturday.
Despereaux was took in front of the crowd of mice and the council, who were waiting for him. The mice whispered and some of them touched Despereaux with their paws and whiskers. The head mouse asked Despereaux if he had sat at the foot of a human king and had been touched by a human girl. He admitted and explained why he had done that. The head mouse told Despereaux the reason was not important and he must be punished. Before he was sent to the dungeon, he was asked to renounce his action and repent. Despereaux didn't do. Then a mouse in the crowd shouted,"To the dungeon." A mouse tightened a red thread around Despereaux's neck. But he secretly encouraged Despereaux to be brave. Everything was prepared and Despereaux squared his shoulders. Two hooded burly mice came into the room and pushed Despereaux towards the dungeon. His mother moved through the crowd and asked the two mice what would happen to Despereaux. They told her he would be eaten by rats.
