I was on business in a village primary school in the mountains of Chongqing by the end of this September. I played together with the children most of the time, also took lectures for two days. I told the story Fantastic Mr.Fox to kids of Grade three, even when I hadn't read the last part of this story yet.
Boys and girls liked this story so much. One boy retold it to his parents after school. And they praised their son as a "good storyteller".
All the kids cared about the safety of Mr.Fox, without any exception. They thought that it was clever, brave and caritative. No one took the position with the three farmers.
It reminds me of the famous movie Jurassic World. In that man-made world, human beings created all the animals, including the biggest dinosaur. It's just like that we create them, feed them, use them, then kill them if needed.
Actually, the world wasn't created by human beings. We never really own it and we should not own it. We live on it, together with millions of different kinds of creatures. It asks us to live in a friendly way, environment-friendly, to animals, plants.
If there is something I don't agree with to the three farmers, it was their intemperance. Boggis ate nine chickens one day, Bance had sweet doughnuts and fatty goose-livers, and Bean drank gallons of strong cider without eating anything. Their lifestyles were far away from moderate.
Therefore, they made a crazy plan to kill the Fox family when Mr.Fox stole animals from their farms. They wanted to shoot them death, even destorying the hill and the forest.
Of course these animals in their farm were their properties. But we all know that Foxes are predator and they don't raise animals to eat themselves. If the three farmers could be tolerant, maybe they would find someway win-win.
As Holy Bible said,
Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them.
Because we ,the birds, and the foxes live in the world together.
