今天终于结束了小公主。有一些生词，明天再说吧。旧书还是最好晒一晒，放时间长了还是不大好。今天进行乔治药水第一章，不过第一章比较简单。
1.Grandma
‘So be a good boy and don’t get up to mischief.’
This was a silly thing to say to a small boy at any time. It immediately made him wonder what sort of mischief he might get up to.
妈妈要去买东西，于是出门前对乔治说别淘气，顺便给姥姥吃药。对于一个孩子来说这是不明智的，越是提醒他们别淘气，越会让他们想做点什么。
Mischief is playing harmless tricks on people or doing things you are not supposed to do. It can also refer to the desire to do this. 恶作剧; 淘气;
形容词为mischievous
‘And just try to behave yourself for once while she’s away.’
‘Yes, Grandma,’ George said.
George was bored to tears....He was especially tired of having to live in the same house as that grizzly old grunion of a Grandma. Looking after her all by himself was hardly the most exciting way to spend a Saturday morning.
behave yourself 属于固定用法，行为规矩些，自重。
乔治无聊的都要流泪了，哈哈哈，是不是太无聊都到瞌睡打哈欠了。他家离别的地方太远，农场里只有鸡鸭鹅牛马之类，没有一个小朋友。最倒霉的是好不容易星期六还要和姥姥这样的人呆一起。

grumpy脾气坏的，属于高频词汇。
pale yellow其实就是指姥姥的牙齿发黄
she was always complaining, grousing, grouching, grumbling, griping about something or other.
她总是怨天怨地，叽里咕噜，大发脾气，不是抱怨这就是抱怨那。
If you grouse, you complain. 名词是松鸡
A grouch is someone who is always complaining in a bad-tempered way. 动词为抱怨
If you say that someone is griping, you mean they are annoying you because they keep on complaining about something.
这几个词都是抱怨的意思，罗尔德大爷的词汇量真大。

姥姥要这要那，嫌弃茶不甜，没茶托，没勺子。爸爸妈妈在家她从没这么多要求，但是爸爸妈妈不在，乔治就倒霉了。
when she had him on her own 是指乔治完全在她的掌控下的时候。

姥姥不仅要求多，还嫌乔治长太快，她认为就不应该长个子。当然也不能长懒惰，不听话，粗心，邋遢，愚蠢等等。

George took a good look at Grandma.

哈哈哈，巧克力不是不长个，而是会让你往上长而不是往下长。太好玩了。不过不要吃太多巧克力，对身体不好。
It’s not what you like or what you don’t like. It’s what’s good for you that counts.
一看到count这个词，就会莫名想起provided的用法。虽然并没有关联。

beetley来自beetle甲壳虫。The Beatles就是甲壳虫乐队，Volkswagenwerk-BEETLE就是大众甲壳虫汽车。
hag这个词还是在美女与野兽里学到的，老妖婆，很...的词汇。

stick应该是指芹菜的主梗，stem就是分枝，例如上文就出现的句子you get a beetle inside the stem of a stick of celery.
George started edging towards the door. He wanted to get as far away as possible from this filthy old woman.
姥姥真的太吓人了，不仅不让吃巧克力，还要求乔治吃各种虫子，他又不是贝爷。后面还讲了各种黑暗魔法，豹豹听这一段也是被吓了一跳。貌似罗尔德大爷下的老人没几个正面角色。

horny:Something that is horny is hard, strong, and made of horn or of a hard substance like horn.
以前还学过一个词foghorn雾号

George wanted to run away, but his feet seemed stuck to the floor.

George made a dive for the door.
这样的姥姥太可怕了，乔治于是冲出了房间，跑到了厨房躲了起来。可怜的娃真不知道如何渡过和姥姥单独一起的时间。下一章乔治就要想法子咯。
今天就是这样，剩个尾巴的时候去了趟楼下小超市，后面就接不下去了。哈哈。双十一到处做活动，还是要像荷兰人一样，捂紧钱袋子是要事。
