Every little children have a lot of picture books, also does my boy.
His Mom asked me to read book for him this evening. When I open the picture book, I don't read the words on the book. I just lead the little guy to read the pictures and ask him what he saw and what he can know from the pictures. His Mom was a little annoyed with what I was doing. She said, you are not serious, you have to read the words and tell him the story.
I explained to her, this is the difference between man and woman, father and mother. You should know why picture books have so many big pictures, but little words. The author's aim is asking kids to try to understand the story by the pictures and alos by himself, the words are just auxiliary. Little kids have to learn how to observe and how to think. That's the most important, not the knowledge and the stories.
