playwright: a basic idea of a larger theme or argument involving conflict, of one character with another, of desires within the same character, of a character with his environment, of one ideology with another.
Some dramatists prefer to work from a scenario. theatrical performance need not be based on a playwright's script. a group of actors may devise their own material or improvise on situations suggested by the audience.
