(一)
Whether the Sensitive Plant, or that
这株含羞草,抑或是那
Which within its boughs like a Spirit sat,
如有魂灵所栖的细植,
Ere its outward form had known decay,
未及我们所知的,那躯壳腐朽之时,
Now felt this change, I cannot say.
已觉有变,惟不能言。
(二)
Whether that Lady's gentle mind,
是否当女郎那高洁的心灵,
No longer with the form combined
不再为皮囊所囿,
Which scattered love, as stars do light,
爱意纷临,恰如星辰,
Found sadness, where it left delight,
欢欣入眼,却觉忧愁。
(三)
I dare not guess; but in this life
我如何敢随意揣度;但这人生啊
Of error, ignorance, and strife,
饱含过失,满目愚昧,争斗不息,
Where nothing is, but all things seem,
然而,一切似乎微不足道,
And we the shadows of the dream,
我们都是梦中的泡影幻像。
(四)
It is a modest creed, and yet
多么谦卑的一个教条,然而
Pleasant if one considers it,
如果人们觉得它称心如意,
To own that death itself must be,
无人能支配死亡,除它自己,
Like all the rest, a mockery.
就如所有安宁,不过一纸荒唐。
(五)
That garden sweet, that lady fair,
花园与女郎,都是如此甜蜜明媚,
And all sweet shapes and odours there,
所见所闻,皆是美丽的身躯,迷人幽香,
In truth have never passed away:
而事实上它从未如此令人着迷:
'Tis we, 'tis ours, are changed; not they.
改变的是你我而已,并非他们。
(六)
For love, and beauty, and delight,
至于爱情,美貌,以及欢喜,
There is no death nor change: their might
从不会止步死亡,困于变故:它们应会
Exceeds our organs, which endure
比我们的组成更久经琢磨,所耐受的
No light, being themselves obscure.
昏暗无光,正让它们自此生根发芽。
