提前一个多小时就到了公司,刚到楼下,就下起了阵雨,很大。
To play it safe(为了保险起见), I waited outside for weeks, just in case(以免;以防) the new neighbors moved in early. Literally,it was weeks. I entertained myself by playing soccer with our dog, Champ. Mostly he'd just block because a dog can't exactlly knick and score, but once in a while he'd dribble with his nose. The sent of a ball must overwhelm(压倒) a dog, though, because Champ would eventually(终于) try to chomp(咬牙切齿) it, then lose the ball to me(败给了我).
When the Loski's moving van finally arrived, everyone in my family was happy. "LIttle Julianna" was finally going to have a playmate(玩伴).
My mother, being the truly sensible adult that she is, made me wait more than an hour before going over to meet him. "Give them a chance to stretch their legs(歇歇脚), Julianna," she said. "They'll want some to adjust(适应)." She wouldn't even let me watch from the yard. "I know you , sweetheart. Somehow(不知怎么的) the ball will wind up in their yard and you will just have to go retrieve it"
So I watched form the window, and every few miniutes I'd ask,"Now?" and she'd say,"Give them a little while longer, would you?"
Then the phone rang. And the miniute I was sure she was good and preoccupied(专注于), I tugged(使劲拽) on her sleeve(袖子) and asked,"Now?"
She nodded(点点头) and whispered(轻声说),"Okey, but take it easy! I'll be over there in a miniute."
I was to excited not to charge across the street, but i try very hard to be civilized(有礼的) once I got to the moving van. I stood looking in for a record-breaking(破记录) length of time, which was hard because he was! About halfway back(?这句咋翻译?)! My new sure-to-be base friend, Bryce Loski.
